1I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Bluesky, is in fact, ATproto/Bluesky, or as I've recently taken to calling it, ATproto plus Bluesky. Bluesky is not a social network unto itself, but rather another free appview on a fully functioning ATproto network made useful by the ATproto SDK, developer utilities and vital protocol components comprising a full platform as defined by the IETF.23Many social media users run a modified version of the ATproto system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of ATproto which is widely used today is often called "Bluesky", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the ATproto network, developed by the ATproto project.45There really is a Bluesky, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the network that they use. Bluesky is the application: the ingestor in the network that indexes the firehose's records to the other clients that you use. The appview is an essential part of an ATproto network, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete distributed network. Bluesky is normally used in combination with the ATproto network: the whole application is basically ATproto with Bluesky added, or ATproto/Bluesky. All the so-called "Bluesky" distributions are really distributions of ATproto/Bluesky.login to post a comment
